Yoga History

Yoga is one of the most ancient metaphysical science. Its origin thousands of years ago in India. Yoga evolved during 'SAT YUGA' also called as Golden Age.



According to history Lord Shiva is the founder of yoga. They were Aryans who migrating from the North-west and were instrumental in discovering yoga.

However, the systematic reference to yoga is found in Pantajali's Yogadarshana  Maharishi Patanjali systematized the yogic practices.

After Patanjali, many sages/yogic contributed to its development, and as a result, yoga has now spread all over the world.

In this sequence, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) with 193 members approved the proposals to celebrate 'June 21' as the 'International Yoga Day'. 

Stages of Yoga


Patanjali has explained systematized yoga thought through 'Yogasutra'. In Gita and Upanishads, we find the expression of yoga. Different stages of yoga by Patanjali:

1.Yama
2.Niyama
3.Asana(posture)
4.Pranayama(control of breath)
5.Pratyahara
6.Dharana(concentration)
7.Dhyana(meditation)
8.Samadhi(super-consciousness)

Yoga education helps in self-discipline and self-control, also in self-awareness. It's easy to attain a higher level of consciousness, improve hygiene, integrate moral values.

Ans. Early morning and evening is the ideal time for yoga with empty stomach about three hours after lunch.
